850nm Filter Update. #2

Wow, what a change! There is a major difference between the look of 715nm and 850nm! The biggest thing that I have initially found is that the leaves are MUCH whiter and water darker! There is a side affect of stacking filters... I loose about 3 stops of light resulting in slower shutter speeds at 80 ISO. This filter is going to be a mid day filter in bright light. More later!

Infrared Hurricane

One thing that will always make a so - so IR image great is really good clouds! We, here on the East Coast do not look forward to hurricane season but one thing we can agree on is that they bring WILD cloud formations! I went out to the beach yesterday to just take it all in and I could not put the G9 down! Get out there if you have the capability and take IR photographs during the lead up to these storms and you will NOT be dissapointed.

Modifying your EXISTING MODIFIED Infrared Camera with an external Filter!

Today I ordered a 58mm Infrared filter at 850nm. This is for testing on an already converted Canon G9 (715nm). The thought process on this is to limit this already fantastic camera to 850nm. The folks at LDP assure me that this is indeed doable and that it will act as an internal filter on the G9 with a lower limit of 715nm (internal installed filter)! I can see me keeping several filters (hey, 1000nm anyone?) on hand to change the mood of the camera! I will let you all know how this does. It is arriving this Friday!
